Germs never take a holiday.
Tuesday, December 20, 2011

Festive seasons are right at the corner, one after another. Girls piling up on their make up, looking their best to attend celebrations. However busy we might be, we musn't forget about hygiene, because germs never take holidays.

So in liew of such occasions coming up, we must beware of what we are putting on our faces, and not forgetting the handy brushes we uses. Those unsuspicious helpers are the sites where germs germinate, and are spread on your faces.

To clean the brushes, we need a few items.
- Water Based make up remover
- Any antiseptic cleaning agent ( I.e : dettol handwash, sanitizer )
- Lots of tissues
- A useless plastic cover
- Your brushes to be cleaned ( of course!)

___

Step 1 : Pour some Make up remover on the useless plastic cover and shove your brushes in the remover , and clean it as though you are painting the useless plastic cover. In my case, I did not have any plastic cover around, so sanitized the basin, and cleaned my brushes.

I'm using Cleaning Express water-based make up remover here. There are the only brand that I found is water based. Why water based? Because oil based make up remover is hydrophobic making it difficult to be removed from your brushes.

Step 2 : Wash over with water, then repeat step 1, however this time round the medium should be antiseptic cleaning agent.
I'm using Dettol Handwash. See the scum, eeeeks. These are the powder, your dead skin cells, oil, and dirt brushed on your faces everytime you uses them!!!
< inserts another scream a second time >

Step 3 : Run water over the brushes in the manner as shown in the picture. Do not wash the brushes upside down. We do not want dirty water to run backwards down into the glue area where the strands of hair are stuck together. Potential breeding grounds for germs.
Also, if you're hardworking enough , this step could be done in ice-cold water. The coldness of the water will make it unable for germs to grow, as well as protecting the hair of the brushes.

Step 4 : This is the indicator test cum drying . After washing all brushes, place them on layers of clean tissues, try to use the tissue to press on the hair to dry the brushes.

In the occassion when some color appears on the tissue, ( like the brown stains you see in the picture ) , it indicates that the brush is not cleaned properly. So repeat step 1 and 2 to clean the brush again!

Step 5 : Using a new piece of tissue, gently press out the excess water on the hair using tissue, then try placing the brushes in a vertical manner. I put the brushes against the wall and a tissue on the below. This is to prevent the water from running back down the strands of hair where the glue is, for the water could detach the strands of hair from being held back by the glue.

Step 6 : After the brushes are done, remember to put them back into their respective covers to maintain their shape. But don't forget to clean the protective covers too! Also if possible, put some moisture absorbent at places where you are keeping your brushes to keep them free from being moist, as humid places encourage germs growth!

I got my silicon absorbent from the bottle of chewing gums that I finished.

Alright, that's 6 easy steps to clean the brushes. Never be too lazy to clean your stuffs that are in your make up stash, else your face will suffer the consequences!
